Tag, we're it
May we please stop saying we are passing our country's financial pain on to future generations? Um, in case you haven't noticed, WE ARE the future generation that previous generations have warned would get screwed over. To make matters worse, we haven't seen ANYTHING yet.
The national debt is approaching $14 trillion. I stopped keeping track of the nation's unfunded liabilities a little while ago when they were reportedly $106 trillion (the source, by the way, was the Federal Reserve). Now we're told that cities are facing $574 billion in unfunded liabilities for pensions, while states are facing a shortfall for their pensions of a mere $3 trillion.
This debt will soon destroy us, if it hasn't already. This debt, all of it, is the result of big government. What so many thought (and continue to think) would be our salvation, has proven to be the source of our destruction. Nice going.
