Pledge, shmedge. Why not just keep your oath?
From the Republicans' "A Pledge to America": With this document, we pledge to dedicate ourselves to the task of reconnecting our highest aspirations to the permanent truths of our founding by keeping faith with the values our nation was founded on, the principles we stand for, and the priorities of our people."
From me to the Republicans (of which I am one, for now): Up your aspirations. If you had been following your oath to the Constitution all this time, we wouldn't be in this mess. Where in your Pledge is there any mention of undeclared, unconstitutional, unaffordable wars of aggression? Where is there any mention of restoration of free markets, which we have not had in our lifetimes? Where is there any mention of ridding ourselves of this fraudulent financial system and returning to a sound dollar? Where is there any mention of restoring civil liberties, by eliminating the Department of Homeland Security and repealing the USA PATRIOT Act and others that violate the Bill of Rights?
An oath to the Constitution is infinitely more compelling than a "Pledge" you post on the Internet. If you can't keep your oath, why should I believe you can keep your pledge?
